“Legs“ is the new piece by Dawka Energii Theatre-Dance Company. The Company was established in 2008 with the ambitious objective of introducing Poland to community dance. In doing so this bought together different social groups of varying ability, who may never have danced before, to create pieces of contemporary dance and physical theatre. Directed and choreographed by a mother-daughter collaboration of Wanda and Magdalena Radlowska, the company is the leading multi-generational theatre-dance company in Poland and has grown to 25 members in Poland and abroad. The company’s ethos is to expose everyday people to dance and culture, giving them the opportunity to work creatively with others and to open their mind to learning something new and sharing ideas.
“Legs” explores the difference in relationships between young and old, such as communication, relationships and emotion. How does the relationship between a mother and daughter change over time, when the daughter detaches the strings of nurture? Is it possible for the older generation to express themselves or show emotions? “Legs” aims to break down these misconceptions. The title relates to the body because the piece also shows how much beauty there can be in any part of any body, encouraging the audience to look at the human body in a new way and demonstrate that beauty is not related to age.
